What You Will Be Doing:

As the Knowledge Lab Manager, you will support the success of the upcoming Knowledge Creation Lab and Maker outreach program. The Lab will facilitate diverse digital and material knowledge exploration and creation to support students and faculty from programs and communities across campus. The Lab will support the use of materials, equipment, software, programming, workshops, and discussion groups to explore both traditional and non-traditional forms of scholarship. The Lab will utilize the Libraries digital and print collections to foster an experiential learning environment that uses information to make informed decisions. You and the team will integrate software, such as GIS, data analysis, and digital humanities programs with maker tools, such as sewing machines, Cricuts, 3D printing, and electronics to create a low-stakes rapid prototyping environment where students can experiment with ideas and bring them to fruition in a welcoming environment.

Examples of what students may do include creating podcast episodes, sewing wearable electronics, designing data visualizations to tell a story in a booklet format, and using cardboard, electronics, and fasteners to design a prototype. As the Lab Manager, you will maintain a podcast booth, Lab resource and information page, materials inventory, a Maker tool check-out system, among other responsibilities, and coordinate with a Libraries faculty advisor to design and deliver programming, workshops, classroom curriculum, and outreach activities to the Purdue campus.

The salary range for this position is between $41,000 - $57,499. This is commensurate with education and experience.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience

Must have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in library science, education, information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field
  • Two (2)- Three (3) years of experience working with maker tools (e.g., 3D scanners, 3D printers, Arduino) or in a makerspace environment required
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

    Skills:
    • Familiarity with a variety of visualization software and tools
    • Engineering design thinking
      • Rapid Prototyping
      • Paper art and crafts, such as zine making, sewing wearable technology
      • Curiosity and ability to identify and learn new technologies quickly
      • Developing and hosting workshops
      • Teaching ability and/or experience
      • Excellent communication skills
      • Reliability and conscientious attitude

        • All new hires will be expected to follow Protect Purdue
