Position Title: Sr. Manager, Category Strategy & Planning
Location: Atlanta, GA
Reports to: Director, Category Strategy & Planning
The Sr. Manager, Category Strategy & Planning will work closely with cross functional teams in the development of Vacuum Sealing category stories, focusing on driving overall category growth. Leveraging syndicated data, shopper and consumer insights, category and industry trends, will develop comprehensive category strategies focused around shopper centricity, enabling greater sell-thru and market share gains. This position works as a strategic thought leader, imparting knowledge of the category to drive profitable business results. In addition to Vacuum Sealing business, Sr. Manager will be responsible for Retail strategy in all channels with focus on driving omni-channel growth. Duties and responsibilities include the following:
Brand Champion
Mastery Category Understanding

  • Act as subject matter expert in assigned sub-category/overall category and provide thought leadership to internal constituents as well as external customers
  • Serve as the expert on the use of syndicated and household panel data for sub-category/total category to support/contribute in the development of strategies and tactics
  • Full Category competitive landscape knowledge - developing long term action plans to combat/take share
  • Identify and disseminate Category Management best practices
  • Leads 3-year Commercialization Category Strategy
    Data Analytics & Shopper Understanding
    • Complete knowledge of data resources & analytics to monitor +/- to POS/share - able to identify causal and recommend action plan
    • Understand sub-category purchase drivers, trip missions, shopper need states, etc. and liaise with Brand Development and CMI to lead executional strategies
    • Provide sub-strategic category direction based on syndicated and HH panel data
    • Provide input into sub-category definition and product hierarchy and ensure consistency across data providers
      Multi-channel Experience
      • Expert on customer/channel insights and perspective of the various channel dynamics for total category
      • Monitor channel shifting and the associated trends reflected in the marketplace & develop action plan
      • Oversee Category Channel Conflict & establish guardrails
      • Understand how to drive onmi-channel growth and the associated tactics needed in brick and morter, online and omni
        Manage Innovation Pipeline
        • Lead Commercial development alongside Brand Development to manage pipeline of innovation, bringing both a customer and consumer perspective to the development process
        • Use knowledge of customer and consumer to recommend optimal assortments and channel exclusives
        • Omni-channel approach - Build in-store and .com requirements for a successful go-to-market into launch development plans
        • Understand impacts of innovation to the sub-category P&L & own the impact to Customer P&L
          Retail Strategy
          Customer selling presentations
          • Ability to combine Brand story + analytics to create retailer focused selling stories
          • Leverage insights to gain distribution in Innovation / Optimal assortment
          • Calculated size of prize opportunities and ability to link strategic goals to retailer goals/benefit
            Annual Customer planning
            • Approve the development of customer playbooks for ttl category - setting distribution/shelving/merchandising/promo goals
            • Approve the total market 18 month rolling Promotional calendar for all customers/channels
            • Approves customer specific promotional needs - items/prgm/display
              Roll up ROI analysis of top 10 events for each team member - developing for prgm improvement guidelines for future planning
              • Oversees National promotional calendar - approves all pgrm details
                Line review planning & oversight
                • Lead line review process for strategic accounts
                • Develop Pricing/Promo guardrails to ensure profitability growth
                • Mix management
                • Ensure Best in Class selling stories to achieve both brand and retailer objectives
                  P&L Management
                  • Responsible for channel P&L, trade funding & overall tracking of profit goals
                  • Lead annual budgeting process for Food storage category
                  • Approve Pricing/Promo guardrails to ensure profitability growth
                  • Approve Mix management - Sub-category & Customer
                  • Approves List and Bracket Pricing for TTL Category
                    • Bachelor's degree (emphasis in business, marketing, finance, or related field), advanced degree preferred
                    • 7-13 years of experience working with a leading CPG company (Trade or Channel Marketing, Category Management)
                    • Demonstrated knowledge of Category Management philosophies, tools and processes and proven record of success.
                    • Previous experience in managing multiple direct reports
                    • Global mindset - able to work across countries to develop strategic plans
                    • Strategic thinking, self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines
                    • Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
                    • Strong familiarity with syndicated data, measures and software (e.g. NPD, IRI, , etc.)
                      Additional Skills
                      • Build strong sustainable business relationships at all levels and functions of the organization and with customers and customer teams
                      • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
                      • Multi-channel experience and shopper understanding.
                      • Direct and perform analysis across a wide variety of category business issues and make fact-based recommendations
                      • Must be able to link business objectives with winning growth strategies
                      • Convey complex issues brilliantly with excellent communication and presentation skills
                      • Analyze and break down complex business issues, identifying the root cause and recommending clear, actionable next steps; strong communication and presentation skills required
