transformation.Position OverviewThe Utility Distribution Planning
Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, development,
and implementation of utility distribution systems. This role
requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering
principles, exceptional project management skills, and the ability
to lead a team of engineers. The Distribution Planning Manager
oversees the modeling and analysis of the Distribution System to
facilitate a capital plan. They are integral in ensuring
distribution projects are completed to ensure a safe and reliable
distribution grid.Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive distribution planning
strategies and projects.
- Oversee the design and optimization of distribution systems to
ensure reliability and efficiency.
- Manage and lead a team of engineers, and other personnel
involved in distribution planning.
- Reviews and approves all technical studies required on the
distribution system, including but not limited to: load flow, short
circuit
- Develop the short, medium and long term Distribution System
Plan, including providing the majority of the input on the priority
and necessity of the capital investments.
- Coordinate with other departments, such as project development,
engineering, operations, maintenance, and finance, to ensure
cohesive project development, planning and results.
- Prepare and present project proposals and budget
recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory
requirements, and safety protocols.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members and
other departments.
- Stay up to date with advancements in utility distribution
technology and best practices.
- Review and provide input into the Corporate forecasting
process, as well as determine the forecasting strategy used in
internal analysis.
- Provide support or serve as a sponsor for testimony, as needed,
in various regulatory proceedings related to AES Ohio and Indiana
Distribution activities.Qualifications
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze complex data and make informed
decisions.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and
distribution system design. Knowledge of industry standards, good
utility practices and regulatory requirements (either the IRUC or
the PUCO or both)
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in utility distribution
planning or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related
engineering field. A Professional Engineering (PE) license or the
ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment is strongly
preferred.
- Proficiency in CYME (or another Distribution Load Flow
software), LoadSeer and/or GIS is preferredWork EnvironmentThe AES
Ohio and Indiana Distribution Planning Manager will oversee team
members in both states, and may be regularly located in Dayton, OH
and Indianapolis, IN. This position typically works in an office
setting but may be required to visit project sites and utility
facilities in both states. This role may involve occasional travel
to participate in company events, conferences and training.AES is
