RADIO-TELEVISION SERVICES (BL-RTVS-IUBLA)

This position functions within the Content Group and Digital units
of IU Radio/TV to develop robust and interactive digital
infrastructure for indianapublicmedia.org, the home of NPR member
station WFIU Public Radio, and PBS member station WTIU Public TV.
Specific technologies used include Java, Apache Velocity, shell
scripting, PHP, MySQL. Applicants should be familiar with a Linux
environment, version control, application deployment and
containerization, and networking technologies such as DNS and
TLS.
Works, under the supervision of the Digital Director, on a variety
of small-scale web and software products for the Digital unit of IU
RTVS.

Using environments such as Google Data Studio, Salesforce, Tableau
and Microsoft PowerBI to organize, process and visualize digital
audience data across a variety of online platforms (web traffic,
live audio/video streaming, mobile devices, smart speakers,
podcasts, email newsletters, etc.) for digital business
intelligence and content development research
Develops and deploys web applications for internal use (i.e. staff
intranet).
Tightens integration between existing tools used at IU RTVS, such
as Asana, IU Fireform, Slack, Microsoft Teams, etc.
Engineers embeddable interactive web content such as charts, maps,
timelines, infographics, or other special website features.
org's design and content more inclusive and accessible, using best
practices and standards such as W3C WCAG, and analysis tools such
as SiteImprove and Google Search Console.
Performs quality assurance and cleanup of older/archived web
content.
Explores how emerging technologies such as machine learning and
spatial computing can be used by the public media system.
Develops websites and web applications, including building and
implementing back-end (APIs, databases) and front end (interfaces,
web-based tools) solutions.
Consults with stakeholders and/or web administrator to review
existing websites/webpages; develops new functionality and/or codes
web changes as needed.
Documents website and web application development efforts (changes,
new functionality, issue/problem resolution).
Tests website and web application performance and functionality;
performs quality assurance checks and fixes bugs accordingly.
Collaborates with design/creative teams and stakeholders to ensure
optimum functionality, performance, accessibility, scalability, and
security of websites and web applications.
Adheres to university web development standards; researches and
stays up to date on new industry web standards, emerging media
technology, UX/UI design/philosophy, and accessibility
standards.

Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science or related
field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Some experience of full stack web development or related
experience
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
Ability to audit and perform updates to developed code projects
Ability to read and write code in HTML, CSS, and JS
Understanding of web standards, policy, and user experience
(UX)
Ability to code in logical dynamic language
Ability to write a relational database schema
A foundational understanding of computer science and network
architecture
Strong knowledge of C-family languages and relational databases
Fluency in web design conventions, concepts, practices and
languages pertaining to markup and presentational style
A solid grasp of server configuration
Experience with systems for deployment automation and version
control
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to
operate a computer and other standard office productivity
equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods
of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The
person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions
with or without an accommodation.
Following a 6-month probation period, this position is eligible for
a hybrid remote work schedule, subject to change in the future
based on university policy and business needs.
