Job SummaryCoordinate and provide comprehensive support for information systems technology. Diagnose and address technical issues to ensure a quick restoration of service or proper escalation. Provide technology support including resolving hardware, software, account, and connectivity issues utilizing remote desktop tools or on-site support. May proactively generate technical documentation in the form of knowledgebase articles. May collaborate with faculty and staff to identify technology requirements for research or teaching projects.Provide direct end-user technical support to users in the College of Science. Install, configure, and maintain system configurations including hardware, software and network connectivity including wireless.Troubleshoot and resolve desktop hardware and software issues. Perform testing on new operating systems, software versions and assess the impact of new software and hardware capabilities. Provide day-to-day technical support for users of department workstations (Windows, Mac or UNIX). Determine software compatibility, equipment needs, required networking file storage needs, etc. Install, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues for new and existing workstations, server connections for the workstations, printers, and peripherals. Serve as a technology support staff team member providing platform independent technical assistance.Required:Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Technology, CPT, MIS or related fieldsSix months of desktop support and/or system administration experienceIn lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience installing and maintaining hardware, software, and peripheral components of PC (Windows/Unix) and Macintosh based workstations including operating system, hardware drivers, common office automation softwareKnowledge of personal computer, network, server and office productivity technologiesExpansive knowledge of one of the following operating systems (UNIX, Apple, and or Microsoft Windows), as well as PC hardware networkingMust be capable of providing quality end-user support and training with patience and consideration of othersAbility to plan, organize and prioritize workloads, manage details of multiple projects simultaneously, and work within a team environmentAbility to complete projects within deadlinesClear and effective verbal and written communications skillsGood interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems on desktopsKnowledge of computer networking concepts including IP networking and firewallsPreferred:Experience supporting Linux/Unix systems, SCCM management and package deployment as well as Windows and/or Linux Server experienceBasic understanding of Microsoft Active Directory management including group policyKnowledge of workstation/user administration within a LAN environmentKnowledge of web design and maintenanceAbility to create and submit packages via SCCMA+ CertificationKnowledge of multiple operating systemsAdditional Information:Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position.A background check will be required for employment in this position.This was formerly classified as an operational/technical position; an internal lateral transfer will retain same benefit standing.FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible For Overtime)Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting Period Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer.
