Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Experience will assist in the Athletic Department's efforts to maximize attendance at our events through traditional and non-traditional marketing and promotional opportunities, with a specific focus on Women's Basketball and other assigned sports. This individual will serve as a member of the intercollegiate athletics marketing team that is involved in all aspects of marketing for all of our teams, including: planning, advertising, promoting, public relations, program and product development, distribution, and research to meet the department's goals and objectives as well as provide exceptional customer service to fans, donors, staff and friends of Purdue University.


  • Serving as the game day producer for Women's Basketball and other assigned sports, directing the video crew, band, DJ, on-court presentations, sponsored elements, and game day staff to choreograph all activities in an effort to maximize interest in the game and produce an exceptional game day experience for fans
  • Serve as POC for Boilermaker Crossing (football pre-game fan fest) by coordinating setups for sponsors, vendors and entertainment groups
  • Serve as POC with campus groups and manage athletic department activities associated with student orientation programs
  • Communicating and coordinating promotional activities with coaches and all necessary department and university staff
  • Working with student-based and community groups in order to increase attendance at athletic events
  • Working with coaches in designated sports to organize and fulfill agreed to aspects of marketing and promotional plans
  • Working with Purdue Sports Properties to fulfill sponsorship requirements at athletic events
  • Setting attendance and experience goals, reviews successes and shortcomings and identify opportunities for continued growth
  • Assisting with special events, tournaments and post-season competition
  • Working with ticket office, student groups and others in the development and execution of student rewards system
  • Assisting in the development of game day schedule and responsibilities for student interns at football
  • Responsible for the execution of game day promotions at designated home athletic events
  • Assisting with game day preparation for multiple sports, often times with events occurring simultaneously
  • Assisting in the oversight of various departmental social media accounts
  • Developing ads and other graphic design elements for video boards, social media, or other collateral
  • Assisting with the student intern work schedule and provide guidance and feedback to them in regards to their performance
  • Assisting with all aspects of the Boilermaker Kids Club program


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 year's progressive marketing, promotions and in-game promotion management
  • Ability to encompass the strategic mission of Purdue University and Intercollegiate Athletics with tact and diplomacy at all times
  • Strong interpersonal, creative, motivational and communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate well in writing and speaking before groups
  • Excellent organizational, project management, problem-solving and customer service skills
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Ability to effectively meet established deadlines in a timely manner
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting athletics marketing, promotions and communications processes
  • Significant knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrable proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Fluency of social media platforms outside of personal use
  • Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Big Ten Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ability to work weekends and travel


  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Athletic Administration, Management or related field
  • Marketing/Promotions or sales/advertising experience within a Division I or pro sports team
  • Experience with Shoflo software and email marketing systems
  • Knowledge of Purdue
