Job Summary
The -Amy Instrumentation Facility -has a long-standing tradition of collaborating with faculty to develop new instrumentation hardware and methodologies to solve their research and education objectives. We pride ourselves in applying / developing new technologies to further science. We have an opening on our electronics team for a highly motivated electronics technician seeking to apply their skills in this unique facility. Major responsibilities include troubleshooting, repair, calibration of electronic and electromechanical devices. Responsibilities can include the recommendation / procurement of components needed in new construction and fabrication of devices / chassis. Preference will be given to applicants with circuit board layout and fabrication experience.

What You Will Do:

  • Diagnose and repair instruments down to the circuit board level that may include complex analog circuits, power supplies, digital circuits, microcontrollers, and high voltage circuits.
  • Assemble prototype circuits that commonly include SMT and through-hole components based on circuit schematics.
  • Perform basic electrical testing on components and instruments using multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and other test equipment.
  • Fabricate circuit boards, devices and chassis - -
    What You Must Have:
    Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma/GED
    • Four (4) years of -experience in electronics, fabrication/repair
    • Knowledge and skill in the use of electronic test equipment, soldering irons, hand tools, power tools, wiring and assembly -
      Preferred:
      • Experience with CAD software
      • Familiarity with scientific -instrumentation -
        Skills Needed:
        • Must be willing to learn and adapt to new and -changing technology
        • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines
        • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to details
        • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce
        • General computer proficiency in the use of productivity software and software specific to PCB design/layout Demonstrated proficiency in circuit board assembly techniques
        • Demonstrated proficiency in electronic chassis design and fabrication
        • Ability to:
          • Troubleshoot and repair electronic devices and instruments at the component level
          • Read and generate electronic schematics and mechanical drawings
          • Take initiative, assume -responsibility and handle -confidential information with discretion
          • Work both independently and in a team environment
          • Diagnose problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
          • Lift and carry 10 - 25 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally -
            Preferred:
            • Skills in the use of precision machining equipment.
            • Programming or system administrative skills -
